In this course we explore the idea of the future and use key future-studies methods to investigate how we can make our future more sustainable and avoid dystopias. Through the use of scenarios, predictions, visions, timelines and more, students gain new understandings of concepts about the future and how it is shaped. This weekly course is open to all students in the Profilierungsbereich and will be assessed by a presentation at the end.

Join us in this english language block seminar as we explore sustainability and see if it's possible to live in a way that uses much less resources than our current lifestyle, while keeping a high standard of living. We will also take an excursion to the ecovillage of Lebensgarten Steyerberg for the last weekend June 28th-29th to see a sustainable community in action.

Typically, during the university studies, and later in one’s academic career, reading and understanding research articles is a requirement for becoming proficient in theories and research techniques. A research article is the outcome of–usually–a long process of study preparation, data analysis, and results interpretation. Therefore, one can say that to properly read and understand a research article is a trained skill. This class focuses on training such a skill.

Age-related changes in important life contexts in the 2nd half of adult life
The role of cognitive, motivational, and emotional development/aging in these changes
Examples in the work domain: age-related changes in work performance, motivation, and commitment as well as transition into retirement
Examples in the family domain: psychosocial adjustment during normative transitions (empty nest, grandparenting, widowhood) and nonnormative transitions (divorce, loss of a child)
