Kommentar/Beschreibung

This class will serve as a guideline for practical sentence analysis with the help of tree diagrams. It will give an outline of present-day English syntax, taking into account basic units such as word classes, phrases, sentence elements, and subordinate clauses. Its aim is to equip the participants with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary for a comprehensive discussion of grammatical structures. In doing so, specific topics will be, for instance, multi-word verbs, noun phrases, types of verb complementation, ellipsis, as well as direct and indirect reported speech.
